How Sumber uses your details
Sumber is a directory and media site for Malaysia's F&B and hospitality trade. This page explains what we keep about you, why, and how to have it changed or removed. Questions and requests go to hello@sumber.my.
What we keep
- Your account: name, email, password (stored only as a one-way hash), and the company, business type and phone number you add.
- What you do on the site: saved suppliers and stories, reviews and comments, and inquiries you send to suppliers.
- Assistant chats: what you tell the assistant about your business, the shortlist it makes, and, only if you tick the box, the name, WhatsApp number and email you leave so our team can contact you. If you type contact details into the chat itself instead, they stay with that chat, marked as not agreed to, and we don't use them to contact you.
- Visits: we count views and clicks once per visitor per day using a scrambled code made from your IP address. We don't store the address itself.
Why
To run the directory and your account, to build your supplier shortlist, to pass inquiries to the suppliers you contact, and, when you've asked us to, to get in touch about quotes or advertising. We never sell your details.
The assistant and AI
When it's switched on, the assistant's replies are written by Claude, an AI model from Anthropic. Your chat messages are sent to Anthropic to produce those replies, which means they are processed outside Malaysia. If you're signed in, your company name and business type go with your first message so the assistant doesn't ask for them again. Don't share passwords, IC numbers or bank details in the chat. The shortlist page can be opened by anyone you give its link to; it shows your business details and suggestions, never your contact details.
How long we keep it
- Assistant chats where you didn't leave contact details are deleted 180 days after the last message.
- Chats with contact details are kept while our team follows up, until you ask us to delete them.
- Your account stays until you ask us to close it.
Your choices
- Delete an assistant chat yourself with the bin button at the top of the chat, or on the assistant page.
- Change your account details in your account.
- To see what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, email hello@sumber.my.
